I was thinking about a masthead mount wind speed instrument but I don't know if you can split the cable for stepping the mast. Has anyone out there done this?Michael StephensS/V Pure Heaven
The two prong plug looks similar to a utility trailer tail-light plug, but make sure you purchase one that’s considered marine grade. That will provide the weather-proofing, even a cap to cover the deck mounted end when not in use.
I have a Raytheon mast head mounted wind speed and direction instrument which is connected with a 5-pin connector. I replaced the original connector for a smaller one which is left inside the mast. Works fine.
Michael:It depends on the they of instruments. I just purchased Nexus instruments and the cable is a four (4) wire cable. I would not think that any are coaxil but I'm not that familiar with other brands. My wind instrument came with a plug at the instrument end and there is no reason not to put one in the mast.
