I am looking at replaceing a broken wind system by NKE. I am considering the Raymarine system, st60 series with short arm transducer. I see a long arm transducer available, but do not know advantage/disadvantage of long vs short. Also, I have seen a wireless system called tacktick. Has anyone had experience with the tacktick? Sure looks tempting considering having to run the cables down the mast for the raymarine.

Instruments

The Signet Instruments in our boat weren't working and we evaluated just about every brand: Signet, Raymarine ST-6 & Plus, Camnav NX2, B&G H1000, and Navman. Since we have four instrument wholes to fill, we wanted to stay w/ four instrument heads. After an exhaustive evaluation process of our requirements, boat, and busget, we narrowed the field to Signet, Raymarine, and Comnav NX2. The networkability of the ST-60 plus and Comnav were very attractive, but we settled on replacing the Signet w/ Signet. With the Signet tradin program, the system fit our needs, the boats requirements, and our budget. For another $1,000, I was would have gone with Comnav NX2.

Raymarine

Many of us have had good results with Raymarine, despite the rants of a few that have not had good luck with the products. :) The long arm transducer moves the sensor further away from the upwash from the headsail. Some racers need/want that. The Tactick stuff is expensive, I don't know if it interafces with other instruments.
