I would like to hear from anyone that has installed a wind generator. Specifically, I need to know what brand was purchased, and where it was bought. Also, cost factors would be helpful. Did anyone install it themselves, or did they have it done? Have you found that it charges the batteries sufficiently while not hooked up to shore power? Any information on this subject would be helpful. John Richard s/v Jack's Place h410

Windbugger

Bought my 1980 H27 with a Windbugger on it. I use it when weekending and in does a good job in 10Kts plus winds. I have it connected through a diode to a big 425 Amp hour AFM battery. I have to monitor the battery to make sure not overcharged and if wind is over 20 Kts, I tie the Windbugger down rather than risk overcharging. Noise is not too bad with Windbugger. There is a hum/vibration when it is spinning but not objectionable on board or near by. Mine is on the aluminum post they sell with it and braced in two directions. Don't know that I'd want to go blue water cruising rigged like this but I don't want to go in my 20 year old H27. Windbugger seems well constructed. I recently took a lightning strike and it blew the diode. The next thing I know I exhausted my battery when generator turned into a motor and fanned the neighborhood. Replaced the diode and all is well.

wind bugger

The only good and long lasting gen. It makes very little noise and produces more amps than any one i have used!
