The Los Angeles Times had an article about large wind electrical generators on what I think was Cape Cod. The graphics with it showed what appeared to be a large area. Looks like it would infringe on the sailing materially. Is this correct? What do you think of the idea? I guess we've learned to live with the oil islands in SoCal, so perhaps its not that big a deal, but it sure looked like a large area.. Rick D.

Wind Farm

The wind farm is located on Horse shoe shoal. The primary channels that sailers use are either south or north. The turbine spacing is 1/3 x 1/2 mile so lots of room. See www.capewind.org for more info. With global warming and concerns over middle east oil supply we need to install large renewable projects. California started the US wind concept. I might add that offshore wind sites are better than on shore do to higher winds and low turbulence. Len Fagan "Tale Winds" Vice President of Enginering for Cape Wind

Thanks, Len

The LA Times article, as most of them, always has some incediary feature. If the farm is on the shoals, it seems it might make running aground less likely. Yes, there are large wind farms in Cal. And, my understanding is that renewable resource energy generation in the state is pretty impressive. Rick D.
