Hope someone can help with a little info.

What are the winch sizes on the cockpit combings and on the mast, and has anyone replaced these or found suitable repair kits?

Also does anyone know the diameter of the Cabin lights?

And finally has anyone mounted spreader lights on their vega? I was thinking of mounting some high intensity LEDs and was looking for some advice. Thanks

I can comment on the spreader lights.
I mounted LED versions of those very common stainless steel swivel types.
The hit on this type of light fixture is that water has reported over time to leak down into the light from the stem and mount pedestal area, filling up the lens area of the light. Not good.
What I did was fill the whole stem of the light with 5200. Think I put a plug in first so the 5200 didn't seep into the actual light body. Then I cocked the lights in the general direction I wanted and wrapped that epoxy putty around the swivel to keep the lights pointing in the same direction.
So far so good. That was 2 years ago.

I'll take the cabin lights. The cabin larger cabin lights on the ceiling are about 4.5 inches in diameter and about 1 inch deep. That is a conservative estimate (ie. Their tapered, so if anything, they may be just slightly larger). The bulkhead lights are about 4 inches long, by 7/8 inches tall (sole to roof), by 3/4 of an inch deep.

I uploaded a couple photos under "Bella" of the lights. I took them a while back when I was going to order LEDs from Bebi. Bebi did not think their kits would fit the cabin lights. Plan B is to either buy LED cabin lights, buy incandescent lights that are larger and then purchase a conversion kit, and/or purchase kerosene lamps (2 more).

All the best.

Groundhog,

Did you route the wiring throught the spreaders arm or run it along the exterior?

winch kit from West Marine to rebuild the cockpit sheet
winches. Very easy operation. The halyard winches on the mast have
only required cleaning and grease so far (Careful taking them apart
or the bearings will get away from you).

I converted the cabin lights to LED with bulb replacements, also from WM.

Are you happy with the LED lamps you used? I had tried that approach, but couldn't find a suitable set of LEDs. The ones I tried didn't provide even light throughout the cabin.

I converted to LED cabin lights. I used the newer surface mount technology, with the little yellow square 'bulbs'. My lamp holders had already been changed to MR16 type, so may not fit your application. The surface mount bulbs are a LOT brighter, and available in "warm white" ... pleasing to the eye.
Here's a link to the conversion: http://tinyurl.com/ctph47

My main cabin lights were original. As I had a couple of spare led festoon bulbs, I changed the sockets over to this typa of bulb and installed them. What a difference in power use! Now,if I could only find a propane solenoid that drew less thena 10 Watts ....!

I made a small wood mounting block for each that conformed to the round spreader arm and was flat for the light base. Coated it with weather proof stuff.
Then I ran the wires (only about a foot) under the spreaders back to the mast and entered the mast. Black (UV protect) wire ties to hold the wire to the spreader. You don't notice the wires.

Wouldn't you have to come back out of the spreader at the mast? Then go back into the mast? Anyway a hole in the spreader will be really big to little Mr. Spreader. THe same hole in the mast is a really small one.

I am happy enough with the LEDs but not so much with the way those links turned out d;^)

Looked fine in my email program. Lesson learned.
