Earlier I had read about the use of the blue self tailers. Has anybody tried them on the 23.5 and if so what size should be ordered? They sound neat, but the boat is away for the winter, so I don't have the measurements to order a set. Thanks

Blue self tailers

I used to have them on a Catalina. They worked OK but as I recall unless the sheet was wet they tended to slip. Given he size of the boat, you probably really don't need a winch handle. I would recommend a set of Harken cam cleats on teak risers. They work well and will hold better.

Already measured

I just measured mine this afternoon as I was thinking of giving them a try as well. The winches on mine are Lewmar 6 or 9s I cannot tell which way they are supposed to be oriented. The drum diameter is 8 inches. Earlier this week I installed spinlock PX cleats on teak risers in place of the jam cleats. Picked up the pictures this evening and will post them in the photo forum as soon as I can clear all the stuff off of my scanner.

OOPS AWrong measurement

The eight inch measurement was the circumferenc of the drum not the diameter. Now 8 mulitiplied by 7 divided by 22 gives a diameter of 2.5. That sounds a whole lot better. Sorry!

Wincher self tailer

We have used the Wincher's for six years on our 23.5. They are ready to be changed because the sun has dried the plastic on the top. We are planning on replacing them this spring with another pair. We used for the jib sheet when we are sailing. Do not use them for self traing because we seldom use the winch handle. Wrap the sheet around the winch pull the sheet and then cleat the line in the groove in the wincher. It hold well in most situations.
