Winch replacement

Hi, everyone. We want to replace the starboard cabin top winch on our Legend 37.5. It is an old Barient that has seen better days. Has anyone done this and can you recommend one that would fit. We want chrome on bronze so it won't look too different from the others.

30% off on Harken winches right now at West Marine... read their WM advisor on winch selection. Use the Barient size as a reference... I think #35 or #40 Harken two speed would work nicely and keep you under $1,000 for bronze/chrome.

I did this on my old 1990 H30g. The equivalent sized Lewmars had exactly the same bolt pattern as the Barients, so it was an easy swap. The halyard winches on my 37.5 are Lewmar 30s.

Would a Lewmar 40 fit and be the correct size for a 37.5?

I'm at my boat now, a 1994. Hunter made some subtle changes for the 1993 model, so yours might be different. There is an inset flat in my cabin top for the winches that just fits the Lewmars. I don't think a larger winch will fit in the inset.

It looks exactly like that, but, not quite as clean, yet. I have lewmar 30st's.

In 35.5 and a Lewmar 30, but if it were a 40 would be better.

WM has a 2 for 1 Lewmar winch sale this weekend. So if you're gonna buy a set of winches... this is the time.

Update on this. We replaced the Barient with an Andersen 34. What a difference it made in sailing the boat! Everything we do with that winch is so much better.
