Not universal across all winch types; look up the handle in an online marine products catalogue, etc., for information.
They're probably fine, as the loads on our little winches hardly require the use of a handle.
I have what appear to be the original winches, RC Marine out of New Zealand, with no provision for the locking-type handle, so I just removed the lock mechanism from my handle, but still never use it.

I recently did a lot of reading on winches as I was debating buying used or new. One of the things I read said that the winch handle nut was standardized around 1972/1974. The main difference between the handle for my 1980 Bariant winches and new Lewmar locking handle is the length of the nut, which is longer on the locking handle. Both handles work fine on my Andersen winches.

I'd be interested in what you come up with for the Lewmar winch. The grip on mine is wrapped with duct tape

Haha the OP is still here. I just bought a cheap one for now and if it doesn't work well I'll upgrade later.
What winches were on the Mac 25's? I've tried 4 different winch handles and they are all about 1/8' too large to go in. Doesn't matter if they're 'self-locking' or standard, they just don't fit.
