Winch handle extension adaptor

A friend's mast has the ratchet winch for cranking in/out the furling mainsail. Problem is there are 2 lines running down from mast just slightly infront of this ratchet winch hence in the way whenever he cranks. Is there a winch handle extension (like a socket spanner type) that can be attach to the plug of the working end of winch handle to give it alittle more spacing? Where can I find this extension?
He doesn't like to use the continuous line for furling/unfurling.

Never Seen One..

..but I believe a machine shop could fabricate one .

Install a Harken double carbo block at the base of the mast to route the two continuous furler lines through to mitigate the interference with other lines.

Stephen, he has the continuous line routed properly but just didn't like pulling it as he finds it troublesome. Perfer the crank it at mast but winch handle doesn't clear from lines running down mast. Machining one adaptor is possible but ready made is alot easier.

Sorry but not using the furling line is just unreasonable. The furling system is designed to use the lines. Crawling up on the deck and stooping under the boom and cranking in the sail seems very dangerous. The few times that I have crawled up on the deck and used the winch is worse than raising and lowering the sail standing at the mast. Tell him to use the freek'n lines.

Too late. He cut that freek'n furling line off. It must have pissed on him real bad that he decides to crank the winch than pull the line. :cussing:That much I know. So back to the question, ever come across the winch adaptor?

I can't personally imagine having to use that socket rather than just pull a line from the cockpit. In any event, your friend will have to have something fabricated to extend the reach of a winch handle. I could see cutting off the inserted end of the winch handle and welding in a 3/8X12" extention and universal swivel from a socket set between it and the remaining handle. That would allow him a better angle to work from and keep the handle clear of the boom and lines.

New piece of line and a splice would be a hell of a lot cheaper!

If he wanted to furl his main with a drill he could get one of these.
