Will this mount hold my motor?

Just got a nice used Tohatsu 9.8 for my H22. I've seen where people have had 9.9's on their H22, so I thought the 9.8 would be fine. However, this motor weighs so much more than the Johnson Sailmaster 6 (2stroke) That came with the boat. Concerned that my motor bracket is up for the challenge. It feels sturdy enough, and is backed with a steel plate on both sides. Just ordered a new motor mount board, as the old one was wood and coming apart. Any idea what the make of this bracket is BTW?

Let me also mention that I live in Charleston, SC. The tides in the river here can really rip. I was having trouble moving against the current with the 6hp, and felt that I needed something more.

No part number or mfg numbers on the mount? If you can find that you could look up the specs. You can most likely get the weight of the motor with its part number. I had a Yamaha 9.9 4 stroke and it weighed 110lbs.

Your T 9.8 should weigh around 95 lbs. In rough seas the engine movement could generate some momemtum force perhaps as twice the weight of the engine. Load that motor mount with a 100 lbs weight and check the hull flex, operation of the raise and lower mechanism and lateral movement. If it seems OK, next gradually load a 200 lbs weight and just check for hull flex. If there is no bending of the brackets and bolts and hull flex seems to be acceptable then you should be good to go. From the picture the motor mount seems to be in good shape and well installed with two backing plates. We have used a similar mount with a Nissan 9.8 (2 stroke) weighing around 70 lbs with no problems.

The guy that owned my boat Had a on 9.9 2 stroke on it. (H22) I'm pretty sure West Marine Has the mount plate for the engine. Looks more heavy duty then the 1 that came on mine. I'll try to get a picture. Check my profile there's a picture there.
