Will the scuppers handle any volume

When washing the decks and cockpit it seems to take longer than I would like for the water to drain. I race on big boats and any water in the cockpit is gone quickly by more direct through hulls in the stern. I've notice the flexable plastic hoses on my 28.5 have a bit of sag which could be trapping some water. Should I get the sag out? Use somethng more rigid? I haven't taken on any big water when out, but I was just thinking, especially with any heal. Thanks in advance Summer Breeze Sandusky Sailing Club

Never had a problem

I have never had a problem with water entering the cockpit from the scuppers.. and the water does run out a little slow, but ... not a problem for me.. Have a great day..

Concern with bird feathers?

A Navy sailor that owns a boat in our marina was at sea and one late November day I walked past his boat and saw it low in the water. Upon inspection of the cockpit I saw it fairly full of water and water was up to the hatch boards and flowing inside the boat. The reason for all the water was the scuppers were plugged with bird feathers. I had to reach down into the ice cold water to pull the feathers out so it could drain. So, this is something else to be concerned about. If the scupper hoses sag and trap water just imagine what would happen if the water froze and there was a freezing cold rain - this could be a problem too.
