Will Sails Fit??

I have a chance to buy some used sails that are in much better condition than my own. Will sails from a 1992 Legend 37.5 fit EXACTLY on a 1988 Legend 37? Is the rig exactly the same? If they do fit (main and 110% Gen as I have now) then I think it would be a good buy but if I must have them re-cut, re-shaped, or re-configured somehow, they would not be cost effective. These sails were used only one year (lightly) before the boat was configured (by the second owner) for full-race mode with kevlar/mylar ones. the guy wants $1K for the pair--sounds like a great buy to me! Please advise. jim haynie

The Boats

On the home page of this site, check "The Boats" link and do a comparison with the specs. Print them, take them to your sailmaker for a final decision. Or, call Hunter for their opinion. The sails are made by UK.

37.5 sails

Since the rigs didn't change on the Legend 37/ 37.5 until much later, the sails should be interchangable. Even if you did have to make some minor alterations, it still sounds like a good deal.

The "Boat Specs" are wrong

It does look like the rigs are identical. I think there is a typo in the Boat Specs for the 37. The I & P numbers are reversed. If you reverse them you get the same dimensions as the 37.5 Also it is unusual for fractional rig to have an I greater than P so I'm pretty the 37 is the one that is wrong.
