This one has a 302 motor and AOD transmission with 3:55 gears. The manual is not very clear on which trans goes with which rating. Any help would be appreciated Lee

yes

should pull it no problem, I used to snow plow with a 89 bronco and we pulled a trailer appx 3500 lbs. You should be fine.

No Worries

No worries, Mate....I pulled a 3200lb O'Day from Pennsylvania to the FL Keys round trip TWICE with a 2.2L Jeep Wrangler......yes, I could only go about 57 mph because of the short wheel base.

Trans Cooler

I would recomend installing an aux. trans. cooler if you do not have one already. Most important TOW IN DRIVE NOT OVER-DRIVE!! Other than that, you will probably forget it is back there.

Thanks for the responses

The Bronco does have a Trans cooler infront of the radiator so i'm in good shape there. I feel much more comfortable after looking over the bronco closer. Thanks, Lee

Pulling is not the problem!

I'd give more thought to stopping and controlling it more than pulling it. The boat and trailer is going to weigh pretty close to the same weight as the pull vehicle. Proper balance and trailer brakes is going to be real important.

no problem

that Bronco weighs significantly more than what you want to tow, which eliminates most towing problems. Make sure your tongue weight is at least 10% of the towed weight (250#+) to reduce sway at higher speeds and when an 18 wheeler blows by. My neighbor has been towing a 7,000# boat 1000 miles RT to the Keys and back for years without any problem, same vehicle, same engine. Good Luck.

Trailering

If you opt to anything any distance (on a public road), do not exceed the max tow weight of the Bronco (should be in the owner's manual), or the Gross Combination Weight Rating (GCWR). The latter is the total weight of the completely loaded tow vehicle and trailer. If you were to exceed either limit and get in an accident, your insurance could be void and you could be liable. It's not always what the vehicle is capable of towing that is important, but what it can legally tow.

I've used a '92 FS Bronco to pull my ...

Mac 26D a bunch of times and have never had a problem. In fact, for towing a boat that size, a full size late model Bronco is ideal! I've also used my 'rock crawler' '74 'vintage Bronco' (seriously 'warmed-up' 302, disc brakes, 36" tires, 4.56 gears, HD axles with locking differentials, HD power steering, 4" suspension lift, 2" body lift, etc.) to pull the same boat and it did fine, but the late model is a lot more comfortable for long drives, so I usually prefer to use it.
