We have a 1982 Islander 36, with a Wilcox-Crittendon Winner 4 head, that I managed to find a rebuild kit for. A schematic comes with the rebuild kit, but no instructions. I am hoping that some of your readers might be able to direct me to a source of directions for this project, and include any tips towards a successsful rebuild.

There are no step by step instructions

'Cuz the order in which you replace the parts doesn't really matter much, as long as you make sure to put any that HAVE to go on ahead of the next one ahead of it.

So just pay VERY close attention to the drawing and the orientation of the existing parts and make sure you put the new parts in the same place, oriented the same direction. Finish with a healthy glob of synthetic teflon grease.

Trust me, you'll do fine. And btw, if you can la...'y your hands on another rebuild kit, grab it...'cuz by the time you'll need another one, you won't be able to find one.

Thank you for your quick reply. That is what I thought, (no instruction avalible). I will pay very close attention to the schmatic. You answered part of my concern with"add a healthy gob of synthetic teflon grease". I was wondering if I should lube up these o-rings?

When we realized the incedible quality and condition of this toilet, my wife bought (2) of these remaining rebuild kits. I'm thinking we should look for more to keep this beautiful bronze monument, going well into the future.

Nope...don't just grease the o-rings

Lubrication provides a barrier between two things that rub together...which in a toilet pump is the edges of o-rings against the inside of the pump cylinder. So greasing anything but the edges is really a waste of grease. And since it's REALLY silly to carefully put just enough grease on the edges of 'em to last all of two flushes, the solution is: sllather the whole inside of the pump with grease...which will be enough to keep the o-rings off the walls for a whole season.

One more kit is likely to be all you need...'cuz you'll only need one about every 10 years. So by the time you need another one, something that isn't in the kit will wear out, creating a real dilemma...do you spend more than the price of a whole new decent quality toilet to have that part machined? Or plant geraniums in it and replace it?

Re: Nope...don't just grease the o-rings

Thank you so much for your input into this ongoing project. Since I have found your most wonderful advice, perhaps i could bug you for a bit more info??

We have realized that the holding system has multiple problems from someone elses bad modifications/repairs to the origional tank (which has overflowed/leaked in our first year of use/ twice from overfill) (we're learning). We have a 26 gallon holding tank now (plastic-grey jerryjug type material), a locked up 3 way valve and hoses that have leaked out at the connections. I feel it is best at this point to rip all out and replace all!(we plan long term keep of boat). I have alot of plumbing experience (shorebased), so I feel I can install competently with some guidance. What tank manf/ material, three way valve, macerator pump manf., piping and connections, might you suggest as long term reliable, best value and user friendly enough for a newbie marine plumber to install, (I don't ask much, do I)?

Our space is very limited (of course), approx 14" x 12/14" x 26" (tank), with the pump and valve connections at the rear about 12"x14x 14 space.
Any advice with this growing project would be extreamly appreciated!
Thank You

Maybe...maybe not...

I dunno whether you actually need to replace everything or not...there's a very good chance that you don't. So let's talk...I mean actually TALK instead of swapping a zillion emails apiece. Send me an email (just click on my name at the left of this post and then find the "send an email" tab)...I'll reply with contiact info.
