I have a Wilcox-Crittenden Newport electric head. The water intake impeller has decided to head south for the winter and I need a replacement. However, W-C has been purchased by Thetford and Thetford's phone menu system must have been designed by the government, as I can't get through to anyone. Does anyone know of an alternative to Thetford for the impeller or know the secret code to get through to them? Thanks, -David

Try calling Wilcox-Crittenden directly

Their phone # is 800-521-3032...which is on their website at http://www.wilcoxcrittenden.com/sanitation.asp?bid= You can even order the impeller online instead of calling 'em. They may be OWNED by Thetford now, but Thetford is just the parent company. W.C is a separate division--still in the same place, with the same phone numbers as before. What caused your impeller to fail? The most common cause of impeller failure is running dry, with the seacock closed.

W-C On Hold

Peggie, Thanks for the suggestion. That's what I did: ordered online (they lost the order) and then tried to call. FINALLY! The Admiral got through to them after 3 phone calls and sitting on hold for about 20 minutes. The electric head was her idea, so she got the task!! (grin) However, I've been out-ranked and have to do the dirty work. Oh...what caused it to fail?!? Hummmm... could it be some crew that refuse to use the intake because "it smells stinky the first few times we use it each weekend"?? They spray fresh water from the shower line into the tank. The gunk built up like glue on the impeller and ripped it up. Because the lake water sits in that intake line between visits to the boat, I'm sure all sorts of creatures die in the line. After a few flushes, it's all better. So, I figured I had 3 choices: 1. Nothing and live with it. 2. Re-plumb to the fresh water tank line 3. Install a filter in-between. #1 isn't working, I don't have that much fresh water, so #2 is out. So, I'm going to install an in-line filter to minimize the gunk and it allows me to unscrew it and somewhat pump the line dry before we leave each weekend. -David
