I have just been given an oday widgeon to restore and am trying to establish its age. It has a tag with serial no 25414 and class 2103. I'm thinking it must be pre 73 since it's not using an HIN number like my 73 but it also has a foredeck like the newer widgeons. Any help would be appreciated

Well, first model year for the Widgeon with a forward deck was 1971 and the Hull# and Class# that you list would seem to fit in hte 1971-72 range. O'DAY built about 400-500 Widgeons per year and for reference, my 1969 model was Hull# 22698 Class# 1791. The Hull ID was first required as of 01NOV 1972 (1973 models and after).
For those not familiar with the pre-1973 O'DAY numbering system:
HULL# is how many TOTAL boats O'DAY had built.
CLASS# is how many of that particular class. (Widgeon in this case)
So, my boat was the 22698th Total O'DAY built and the 1791st Widgeon.

Thnx for the iinfo. I knew it had to be a 7x model from the foward deck, but the tag threw me. I currently own. A 73 in addition to this one which i am restoring. Removed cockpit area out of that one and dug out sand and refoamed. It is currently getting its cockpit glassed back in and then gelcoated. Then i start on this one 
One other clue to ID a Widgeon as being a 1971 or 1972, those 2 years the Widgeon had a small "ice box" molded into the portside seat near the forward end. This was eliminated for the 1973 and later models. When O'DAY redesigned the Widgeon deck again for 1984 they added a small covered well forward of the mast that could be used as an ice box.

Do you happen to know if yellow was a standard hull color for a 71? This boat has been clearly painted at least once, maybe twice. I'm just wondering how much paint i have to strip off :-(
See price list above, standard hull colors for the 1971 Widgeon were Fern Green or yellow. The yellow gelcoat will be harder than the paint so you should be able to tell when you reach it. My 1969 Widgeon was still the original gelcoat above the waterline (bottom painted with antifouling) but the boot-top (waterline stripe) had been painted black over the original red gelcoat stripe. It was easy to tell as I scraped when I hit gelcoat (even after I later painted the boot-top red).
