If the transom is shallow enough can you not just hang a small kicker off of it? Or do you need to fix a motor mount? I sometimes transom hang my 2.5 hp on my 8' sailing dinghy. It has never been a big problem for me. The motor weighs about 25 lbs. In order to protect the gel coat I have a rubber pad that slips over the transom and under the motor. It is possible to put a motor mount on your Widgeon, but as you are probably aware, the boat is already very slow. I would use the lightest motor available. I don't have one on mine, I use a paddle!
