I need to replace the wood at the end of the boom into which the pin on the mast slides into. I have searched the web for several hours and am not finding what I am looking for. Does anyone know where the replacement part can be purchased from, or is there a satisfactory work-a-round for this.

??? What wood on the end of the boom???
The boom on my old Widgeon was all aluminum, with a stanless-steel slider on the gooseneck that slid into the groove in the mast. Gooseneck looked like 2 interlocked eyes (one attached to tack end of boom, other ring on gooseneck slider.) Available from D&R Marine (www.drmarine.com) or Dwyer Aluminum Masts, or most sparmakers.

Thanks for your response. Guess I should post a picture of what I have. I have tried DRMarine but did not find what I was looking for. Dark now, picture tomorrow.

Because your post is titled 'Widgeon Boom', I'm assuming the boat is a Widgeon. However, the Mast shown in your photo appears to be a round mast instead of the oval mast used by Oday. Also, the oval Oday widgeon mast, as noted by Sunbird, has a mast groove to receive the gooseneck. Is this possible that your Widgeon boom is retro-fitted to a non-Widgeon mast? Or is this a non-widgeon assembly altogether?

Thank you for your response. You have asked some very good questions, and I am not sure I have the answers. This is an O'day 12, which I assumed is a Widgeon. Am I wrong in that assumption? As far as a retrofit goes, that is a possibility. This boat originally came from a summer camp from northern MN, so I don't know for certain if this is all original equipment. There is a decal on the mast that says Kenyon and Guilford Conn. and Santa Anna CA.

Aha! The Oday 12 is a daggerboard. The Widgeon is a centerboard. Different masts as well.

Thanks for the clarification. In that case, this is an O'Day 12 because it definitely has the daggerboard. Guess maybe I should repost this with the right title.

O'DAY 12 and Widgeon were different models, same hull, but different decks and rigs.
I suspect that wooden plug was a replacement for the original boom insert, orignal may have been aluminum or plastic. You might be better having a new part made?
Anyway, what you have is definitely an O'DAY 12, not a Widgeon. It may be that this is one reason that Rudy didn't seem to have what you need, but then I'd be surprised that he didn't suspect that you actually had an O'DAY 12, instead of a Widgeon, and asked more questions. Rudy doesn't have EVERYTHING from his store posted online, best to give him a call (508) 644-3001 he does have e-mail..... but phone call is better and he is a storehouse of info on O'DAYs.

O'DAY 12 (1977-78)
Cat-rigged (single sail) like a LASER (well ,sort-of?)
Wooden Daggerboard
Fixed rudder was standard, kick-up optional
More of a sailing dinghy/preformance boat.

Widgeon (1963-89)
Sloop-rigged (2 sails) Spinnaker optional
Fiberglass, pivoted centerboard (lever operated 1963-70, line-controlled 1971-89)
Kick-up rudder
A Great trainer/learning boat, used by many sailing schools, often viewed as a "kids boat", but as an adult, former owner of one...... the Widgeon is a great little boat for everyone!

It looks similar to the plastic end piece that is in a Laser boom. Not sure about the size but may be worth checking. Good luck.

Thanks Sunbird22358. You have given me very good information. And thanks to all the other people who have posted replies. Your help is greatly appreciated. I think I am now on the right track. My guess is that any replacement part is probably made of plastic. The pictures you posted were also helpful. I have been sailing a small Starcraft boat for the last 45 years. This is my first "new" boat and there is much to learn.

That last photo looks just like my boat.
