Why pressure sometimes ?

When I flush my 1998 H376, of course, it goes directly to the holding tank. When I am at the dock I pour fresh water into the bowl, then pump. Everything always goes smoothly.
When I am at anchor I use sea water to fill the bowl. I then flip the switch to dry to pump it into the holding tank. At this point it seems like it would be no different than what I do at the dock. However, there is always a lot of pressure when pumping after I have filled the bowl with sea water. When I get back to the dock and switch back to pouring fresh water into the bowl. Everything goes back to normal.
I don't get it.
Any suggestions ?
Thanks,
Jeff, s/v Tango

I suspect the valve that is affected when you through the lever has a defect; if it does not move correctly, you are pumping the clean side against a closed valve. Probably, by the time you return to the dock, enough water has drained from the cylinder that the fault is no longer obvious.

Either the valve is worn or more likely mis-assymbled. It is EASY to put it together wrong after winterizing. Been there, done that. Look up the manual and reassemble the valve.

Sounds like your dry/wet valve needs rebuild.

If it seems a rebuild is needed, just replace the pump assymbly; much better.
