My current sailboat is equipped with Volvo 3 pistons 28 hp (new) with standard sail drive(no shaft). I was told not to lock-while sailing- in reverse gear but leave it in neutral,( or buy a folding propeller..) which frankly make a lot of noise ( the turning prop). I remember for Yanmar , the standard advise is to do what you please including lock in reverse gear .. Anyone has any info/experience on Volvos regarding this matter ?
