Why aren't there many 212's out there?

Just curious...2001 Cruising Magazine Most Innovative Boat of the Year...and it doesn't seem like there are that many fans/owners. Am I missing something?

didnt feel right

I got to poke around on one at the Miami Strictly Sail show, and just didnt like the way it felt. just rubbed me wrong i guess, couldnt place my finger on it. liked the catalina 22 better for a boat that size, and the hunter 240 considerably better. It would be interesting to see a 240 constucted from that new plastic stuff though. much better hull integrity i hear.

Didn't like the open stern

I was set to buy the 212 based on all of the great reviews and information I had read...Then I saw one in person. The biggest disappointment was the open stern. I just didn't think that would be very safe for my young daughter. I mostly day sail on the great lakes and felt I needed a little more boat. I ended up buying a 240 and am happy I did so. Price wise I don't think you're talking a ton more and you really do get a lot more. If my situation were different in that I didn't have any kids I probably would have went ahead with the 212. It looks to be a great boat.
