I'm a diver, so I get to take a peek at my prop, shaft and zincs frequently. I find that my zincs are usually loose so I tighten them up. Sometimes I tighten them up to the point I think that something will strip or break. But still,,,they loosen. anyone have this problem? Anyone have a solution. I suppose I could punch the threads but that would make it difficult to get them off. JIM

Hard rap

Jim. I was told to give them a good hard rap with a hammer upon installing them. This sets them well on the shaft, so that they won't tend to compress themselves back off the curve. I haven't had a chance to check whether it worked as my shaft zinc is gone after one year in the water. I can't tell whether the core is still there or not. Water is too cold to go diving, and I don't have a diving suit. I'll find out when I haul her.

canadian zincs

I've had problems with the Canadian zincs coming loose several times. If you can find made in US and use loc-tite you should get better results. I think the threading is faulty with the Canuck zincs.

There is also the posibility that you are getting

metric size zincs from Canada. A 3/4 inch shaft will certainly look like a twenty mm shaft. But 3/4 is 19 mm, so a 20 mm zinc will be loose.
