We have just bought our first Catalina 22, 1973. I have discovered two what appears to be bilge pumps under the decking under the front cabin area. What are they and should they be really tight to operate ? Any specs on these would be great and are they original equipment ?

A picture would help. Not sure why a bilge pump would in the forword cabin area since it's the highest point of the floor. My c22's bilge pump is under the cabin step. Are you sure this isn't an old paddle type knot gauge transducer and a depth finder transducer? That's where mine are.
Also...bilge pumps have hoses connected to them, do these have hoses?. If the boats on a trailer look under the hull in that area. You may see a little paddle wheel on one and maybe a mushroom shaped plate on the other. If so, they are transducers. Maybe your displays are gone but the tranducers still remain.
