It's 65 degrees f today (in Lake Stevens, Wa) and no rain. Why am I not out on the water? This is crazy because we're above the 48th parallel. Too bad we have no wind.
Have you been sailing?

You bet, out all weekend! Next week I shop for a "baby turkey" (capon) that will fit in the galley oven. We celebrate Thanksgiving old school.

Ok, go ahead, rub it in. Turkey on the boat, weather that rocks...this is painful to read, yet still motivational. We're done...sail toast...in the cradle, on the hard, fat lady sang, etc. You wanna know why I'm not on the water ⛵...well this is why you hardy squiffies:

We had our first overnight on the boat on April 6th. the forecast was for highs in the low 70s and lows in the mid 40s so that felt plenty warm to us at the time. now it's hard to get excited if it's forecast for anything below mid 80s. I'm sure that outlook will change in the coming weeks/months however. ;)

This has been a nice November on the Chesapeake with plenty of days well over 60 and few clouds. I was out sailing yesterday and hope to get in a couple of more sails before I start winterizing. Boat comes out in early December this year.

Actually, I'd have loved to go out but had surgery on my eye and the Dr said I needed to avoid exerting myself for the next week. Next week: who knows the weather is difficult to predict here in the Puget Sound Convergence Zone. We do have possibility of going out year round here. It's just hard for me to get motivated in the40 something degree rain (our normal November weather.)

It was. 65º and a light northerly. First time setting the spinnaker on this new-to-me boat. Still have to figure out the double pole launcher system. They set up a spinnaker pole on each side of the boom with the guys (P&S) always rigged to them and the spinnaker, and the two sheets always rigged to the spinnaker clews. Then you launch the pole on whichever side is windward while you hoist the spinnaker, pulling against a shock cord retractor system that's inside the boom. When you gybe, you release the windward pole and the shock cord pulls it back to its resting spot alongside the boom while you pull the other pole out. There's no need for crew to fumble up on the foredeck, no hunting to get the guy into the pole's jaws (no jaws) and no need to clip the pole onto the mast since it's held there by the launching line. Wild stuff. Glad it wasn't blowing any harder for this trial outing.

Wed pm I took my runabout out and drifted in the harbor listening to the sea ducks. Stunningly beautiful. I can't put my boat away until I've had some time listening to them - alone. No radio, no conversation, no music. Sublime!

Nice, we had a Mac 26D for years. It would go 60 MPH behind our van.

Did you make that bow sprit. I haven't seen one like that. It looks good.

Hard rain here yesterday. I did get out for a hike, but it sure was wet.

Only got out Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week, Santa Ana winds so 10 to 15 knots of warm breeze with no chop, great sunsets with plenty of moonlight, best time of the year down here.

Yes, I made that sprit myself. I had left over 1" heavywall stainless pipe at work that I cut to 5' length. I bought two aluminum clamps that were made for attaching lights to scafolding and bolted them to the deck with huge backing plates. I also through bolted the pipe to the headstay bracket for extra lateral stability. The rig works great! I've been out once when the wind picked up more than forecast and achieved hull speed with no apparent excessive stress before I let the tack line loose and hauled the sail in.
