Lots of sailors in my marina ask me "why a cutter"? And the other question, "why do you call your jib a yankee"? One of the best and simplest explanations was on Sailnet some years ago. I have placed the link below.

Sounds like you've answered your own question about why a cutter. As far as why it's called a yankee I'm interested in seeing the answer to that one too! I wonder if it comes from the foresails on the Yankee Clippers...

Im pretty sure john is correct. its not that i have such a worldly knowledge of things it just seems I heard that somewhere. .:d

Hyfield-style release lever ???

The Sailnet article linked in Ed's post mentions a "Hyfield-style release lever" for the stay sail stay. Anyone know where to find one of these? Or another name they might be called?

today 11/13/03 there is one ( actually 6 from the same guy in St augistine) listed with a 1/2 pin and 1/2 inch threads... i am considering one for my 37 cutter inner stay myaself $175 i think chet p
