You know how everybody advises you not to do things in a hurry because you make mistakes? Well, it applies to shopping at the marine store too...somehow, the tube of 3M 4200 I thought I pulled off the rack transformed itself into a tube of 5200 "permanent" adhesive: a fact that I noticed only after rebedding my chainplates with it...So my question is, in a few years when my chainplates begin to leak again, how much trouble will I be in for?

Don't fret

Done is done and worrying about it is futile. There has been some major discussions lately about these two products and I recall some advice on removing things bedded with 5200. Search the archives and look for Justin's suggestions. Print 'em out & keep 'em for future use. LaDonna

antibond

i havent used it but the product is called antibond . it is in the boatUS catalog. i would do it now and not let a year or so go by just in case the 5200 gets even more permenent with time. good luck . by the way when i was shopping for a boat the service guy showed me an old oday that had chainplate leaks for quite some time. he told me that he rebeds chainplates every six months or so jon his boat . he said they work and leak and you may or may not ever see the water. personally i use silicone . i know everybody frowns but with regular maintainacne and application the job is not that terrible . maybe an hour or so both sides. and i generally dont see a leak or degregation of the sealer for a year and a half at which point i need to be inspecting the chain plates anyway . dont know but it works for me. good luck.
