We're thinking about getting new standing rigging. I have seen a few outfits that make standing rigging such was West Marine and Rigging Only. Who else does it? We're switching to roller furling and going to at least change the forestay. TIA

Standing Rigging

You can get individual pieces of standing rigging, or whole sets, made up for you by just about any rigging shop or places like Defender or Sailnet. Best to remove and bring in, or send in, the old rigging, so the new stuff will be sure to fit. The key things to think about is making sure the measurements are correct, that quality materials are going to be used, and most of all, the swages are done correctly and professionally. An alternative is just to buy the right size wire (from the above places) and use re-usable end fittings, like Norse, but they are expensive and only worth it if you think you'll use them again in the future.

Try Seco South

Bill: I would suggest that you shop around for prices. You may be suprised what some of these companies will charge for the same end product. Seco South has good prices. http://www.secosouth.com/

Standing Rigging Source

I agree with Steve D. In fact I spoke with Hunter and Seco South and it turns out they were the ones who made the original rigging for my '94 H26. They recommend you send them your current rigging so they can match exactly. Don't rely on your own measurements or what the original specs say it "should" be as many changes are done during production which may not be documented. Another good source if you ever need spar related items is RigRite(.com). They were able to provide spreader tips for my boat. Hope that helps you. Happy sailing! -Pat

hsa anyone made their own rigging?

either using nicopress or the reusable type turnbuckles like the system sold by boeun supplies says 100% cable strength and a double copper nicopress on a cable should be at least that. (single is 80% i think). i'm not sure it would be cost effective....especially the reusable fittings but i kinda like the idea of self sufficiency. i've done my lifelines, motor security cable, and miscelanious harnesses with double 3/16 copper ferrels and nicopress. my h23 is 5/32 stainless and i am wondering if there is any reason not to make my own new 3/16" rigging.....the turnbuckels are getting kinda shoddy and i too am considering roller furling and also see a double backstay as a security +.
