Old tars went barefoot in squareriggers, but that’s because they couldn’t afford shoes.

Whatever engineer or boat designer who thought that installing teak slats with hundreds of screws piercing a cored fiberglass deck was a GOOD idea-should he keel hauled...

I like the look of a teak deck if it is maintained, but I cannot undstnd why anyone would think that it is a good idea to put hundreds of holes in a cored deck.

Unless they have figured out a way to attach the teak that doesn’t involve screws, no wY for me.

My Dad had a boat with teak decks, spruce spars, mahogany cabin sides. Always kept well with lots of teenage labor. Mahogany cabin sides painted after teenage labor left.

Teak decks are hot if treated, if dry they reamained cooler. The maintenance was a chore. They were laid over plywood and had boatlife caulk the last time. Lasted 10 years.

Then teenage labor became 20s labor and liked “workboat” finish. Did again with boatlife caulk and sold. No, as gorgeous as it was, I would not want that again
