I had the same concern as you do when I was considering buying a 2nd hand 146 earlier this year. I had read the horror stories of the owners who had to face what no boat owner would ever want to face. Interestingly enough, after all the research I did on this matter to see it the problem might affect a boat here in Perth, Western Australia where the coldest it ever gets is 36F, I was never able to find out for sure what really causes the problem. Never heard of any warm winter climate dweller having a problem. Taking into account the vast number of hulls manufactured, the prevalence of the problem being reported from people keeping their boats outdoors in very cold, snow covered climates and your intention to keep your boat indoors, that would sound to me like you would be risk managing the probability for a problem to arise well.
For me, the savings of a landed 2nd hand late model H146 was less than a $1000 over the cost of the newly release H15 (the fibreglass H146). So I put in an order for a new H15 to be delivered to Fremantle, Western Australia. That decision was not based on any concern over the cracking issue but because I believed it would be easier to carry out any future repairs on a fibreglass hull than a ACP hull because there are not a lot of ACP hulls in the Oz marketplace and therefore little expertise or product available to carry out repairs.
If you do buy the 146 I sure you will love it as much as I love my H15. It has meet all the expectations I had.
Cheers
