Hey peggy I got a real goofy problem that happens to my cold water line on my 79 hunter 33. Once a month or so we have a problem with the cold water faucet on our galley sink. when it is turned on we get great pressure thenit slowly dwindles. I took the valve apart and the strainer screen. the screen had stopped a bunch of white granular stuff from entering the valve stem. what is this stuff is it from the aluminum water tank flaking? i generally turn on the pump and blow the stuff to the ceiling and put all back togehter. then wait til the next occurrence to do it again. thanks for any input

Hi There, I read your article from a shared forum Planet Catalina, and from what you are describing to me sounds like calicum deposits from your water. Now then the next question comes to mind do you have hard or soft water that you supply your boat with? You might want to try a water softner if you have the room to install one. It will keep the white granular stuff and scales our of your tank and will stop eating up your faucet washers and seats, not to mention your water heater if you have one.If you do have one aboard then it should be drained on an annual basis and look to see just how much build up you have in it. It may be none at all, but if you are getting the strainer plugged up every so often then you have thru out your entire system to one degree or another. A water softner will eliminate that, and no I don't sell water softners <s> I just have seen this kind of problem before, here in California, my Home state of Michigan and I'm sure it's the same in Good ole Mass. as well.
