Whisker pole sizing

1984 Hunter 34. Would like to get a whisker pole. Just boat the boat and don't know the size of the furling genoa. How is it measured? What do I measure to determine the whisker pole size to get? What is a good source for poles?

Measure the LP over your genoa as per attachment and then compare with the J of the 34 (13' 9"). That will tell you the % of your genoa. I use a Forespar telescopic whisker pole and it works well. It can be lenghtened to over 20'. With my 130 % genoa, I generally extend it to about 15 or 16 feet to help with control of the sail when running. Good luck

Thanks, I always wondered if the percent of a foresail referred to a ratio of areas or single dimensions. That answers that.
