whisker pole pad eye

I have just acquired a whisker pole for by 2007 B40. Can anybody advise me where they bought their pad eye (that would properly fit the curve of the forward side of the mast)?

As well, any advise on installation on the B40 that has inmast fuling? I was going to drill small holes and install short (but stout) stainless steel screws, with the points of the screws ground off so there is no risk of any snagging on any halyards in the front of the mast.

Thanks

Rick

Can't help with 1st item but would use pop rivets to mount it. That would minimize internal mast abrasion. Chief

It's difficult to determine exactly where the padeye should be positioned on the mast. Many applications use a vertical track riveted to the mast which allows for a vertically adjustable attachment point .

Have you contacted the mast manufacturer they may have a pad eye that is an exact match for the curvature of the mast.

I had installed a track on my C 270 years ago.....drilled and tapped....wasnt that big of deal. Just an afternoon of work. The ring position will change somewhat with the clew height/point of sail.

The boat came with the whisker pole and the pad eyes placed one on each side. Drilled and tapped holes in mast. See Photo

After one time tripping, I almost lost the pole so I put it on a permanent track to prevent losing it the next time. See photo

Us spars has a track that fits into the grooves on their furling mast. However you have to drop the mast to install. I picked up a curved base ring at WM and drilled and tapped for 1/4" ss screws. Forward of boom. Problem is genoa sheets hang up on it when tacking. Smaller ring might not be as bad. May try filling notch on aft edge of ring with line to allow sheet to slip past.

Joe, What is the reason that you have to drop the mast to install the pole track?

There is no access to the slot. I thought about grinding one edge off but you need a relatively long piece to go in for adjustment of the slider up and down. My previous boat had a track and car for a pole and I used probably 6 feet of adjustment.

Us spars actually sent me a short piece of the track when I was trying to come up with a plan for a sliding radar mount. I ended up mounting the radar "feet" to the mast about 8 feet above the deck, which I can reach with a small step and attach the radar antenna on its bracket. Seldom use the radar so saw no need to have it up there in the way.

I suspect the other approach is mounting a regular track with spacers.
