As long as I have owned the boat my whisker pole has basically laid on the deck with the jaw griping a stanchion and the other side bungied to the toerail. Generally this isn't much of a problem except in a bad chop where it begins to bang. It also is underfoot as my 30 doesn't have much room on the deck. I been thinking I would like to lock it onto the mast to get it out of the way.

As we are planning to do a bit of coastal cruising next month off of Delmarva it would be nice not to have to deal with this. Anyone have thoughts on needed hardware to achieve this. I figure the jaw can be placed on the pole ring and some sort of u mounted further up can then stabilize it and allow me to tie it down. Phil or anyone else I have seen clamps that mount on tracks on the mast but there is not track does the store have anything else that might work.

I have the mounts on the stanchions. They are kind of a hard rubber and the jaw swivels to lock in the pole. Maybe because my foredeck is a little longer the pole is not in the way. Check Forespar stanchion chocks.

Agree with the comment on whisker pole use. If you use it often then the deck is the best place for it. However, if it is not used then the garage is a better place.

I guess a consideration might be -- do you ever use the whisker pole? With any downwind reach on central SF Bay not lasting more than 20 minutes at the most, and with me going out with not experienced crew, a whisker pole would just never be used. Down in my crawl space for the next owner -- if the boat is a still going in about 10-15 years when I will probably be hanging it up. The deck fitted whisker pole brackets on my boat are with my whisker pole.

Hadn't thought about stanchion mounts as the pole is a good size and while it can be colapsed it doesn't move freely so shrinking it make it fit better isn't helpful. It two of us to get it pulled out working for the better part of an hour. Would be a afraid to lube it as friction is all that holds it in the open position as far as I can see. Rardi, we do get to use it enough that it isn't an option to leave it a shore.

Thanks all.
