I hear there is a channel mount for a whisker pole on the hunter 28. I can't find one sold anywhere. Two questions; is this the best mount for the 28' or is there a better mount for the whisker. I've never used one.

I believe the car is available from Rig-Rite in the Isomat Spars and Components section.

I found the page.... But since this is my first boat of this size/type I am unfamiliar which is appropriate....how do I determine?

If you click on the mast section numbers you will get a list of boats using that section. I could only find that section NG-31 was used on the Hunter 28.5

Don't know what year/model 28 you have, but the 90's Hunter 28s used Z-Spar masts.

Will do a little more research and let you know, but would be helpful to know year of your boat.

Just checked, edited this post

1985-1988 - Hunter 28.5 w/ Isomat NG-31

1989-1994 - Hunter 28 w/ Z-Spar

I see some Z-Spar masts had integral track and the car is available at Rig-Rite. I don't recall seeing an 89-94 H28 with this system. All that we sold had add-on tracks.

Guessing, at this point, that you have a 28.5, but will wait to hear from you.

OK, 1995 Hunter 28 (nice boat) should have the Z-SPAR (French) extrusion. The Z-SPAR info at Rig-Rite does not list which sections went with any particular boats, AND they say the numbering has changed along the way. But, they do give the x and y dimensions for each mast section, so you should measure yours front-to-back and side-to-side and compare with chart. THE GOOD NEWS is that it appears there is only one car that was used on different mast sizes. I assume then that the part of he mast that accepts the car is identical on all extrusions using the integral track.

The measurements for the car are given on the Rig-Rite web site so you may only need to measure the actual integral track on your mast just to be sure. But, there is only one, so should work.

I sold a lot of H-28s in the 90s, and just don't remember any with integral tracks, so anxious to know what you come up with.

i think you mean the width and depth of a cross section of the mast, and that there is a chart (somewhere?) on the rig-rite page. I'm also guessing that a 'car' is a piece that slips into the forward chanel on the mast and tightens into it somehow and had a loop on the end for a whisker pole. Sorry for asking for all the detail, but it's new to me, totally new. Thanks for your time with me, it's much appreciated. Can you give me a direct link to the pages you are referring to? I think it would help me catch up quicker.

this is a great site if you own a older hunter with an isomat spar. There is a similar chart for isomat spars. The circumference measurement isomat gives is useful for IDing the mast section. Interestingly, a serial number and some info was written with an electric pencil at the base of the mast on my '91 30 T ant on the boom as well.
