I've been looking at for sale ads for a 35.5 legend and see there are differences in the yrs 1987-1995....Are there any big things I should be aware of in looking at these...From my early results, I like the interior trim better on the 92-95 models and like the transom on the later models also...and I like the catbird seats on the 93-95 models...comments are welcome along with any issues to look for..I read about the holding tank problem...thanks...craig

The early models are NOT 35.5 but are just Legend 35. I think that the 35.5 has double sinks in galley, an oven and some other changes. The 35 has a single round sink in the galley and a stove with only broiler. There are also fixed windows on the 35.5 and the 35 just has opening ports.....

I am sure that some of the other members that have the 35.5 can point out more differences. I think that the two boats share the same hull...

The 35.5 changed in 1990 to a more modern (and much nicer) interior, and more hull ports. I owned a 1995 which was the last year built and would highly recommend the boat - but I would go for a 1990 - 1995 version. Aluminum holding tank was an issue but not too big a job to change out. Great sailing boat and I have a UK flasher assymetric specifically built for a 35.5 if you are interested.

I have an 1989 model and yes there are internal differences as they went forward. A few of the differences are, the boom is lower in earlier models this results in more sail area but sailing with the bridge is not possible. The differences is as much as 6". The fuel tank in the earlier models is located behind the aft stateroom and the holding tank is under the swim platform. In later models those were interchanged which results in smaller fuel tanks and larger holding tanks. The interior changes were basically in the sliding doors behind the settee and the dining table was no longer a white surfaced trimmed in wood but a veneer wood surface. There was also a difference in the side non opening port lights. I have not noticed any differences in the swim platforms other then the hatches opening in a different directions. In all they are great sailing boats and provide a twist of speed and ease of handling. Yes, the aluminum holding tank is a must to change out as soon as possible if it is still there. The CNG cooking system is another problem that should be looked into. I just recently switched mine and consider it great improvement. As far as sail handling, the continuous line roller furling system is also a desirable upgradeable item, since furling the headsail part way with that system is almost impossible to maintain in heavy winds. In all, it is a great and stable vessel and I would hardly recommend that model.

We have had our 1993 35.5 since 2003. This was an upgrade from a Catalina 320. I replaced the aluminum Holding Tank with a 25-gallon Poly Tank in 2004 and have done several other upgrades. Love the boat! 1993 seems to be the "transition year" from CNG to Propane. I WAS going to upgrade my CNG system to propane a few years ago because of the growing scarcity of CNG Tank fillers... even have a Propane Locker that is now For Sale... but, after discovering that the Meijr Grocery stores around Ann Arbor had CNG Vehicle Filling Pumps, I put together a "CNG Fill Adapter" for my tanks. I can now take my Tank(s) to any of several CNG Vehicle Filling Stations and fill up myself to 3000psi for around $1.85 per tank. Being lighter than air, CNG is much safer than Propane... and, I like not losing one of my Cockpit Lockers to a propane tank. T. Boone Pickens, keep up the CNG Promotions!
