I sail a Hunter 240 on an inland reservoir that does tend to have high amounts of algae in the summer. It stays in the water from late April through mid-October and on the hard during winter months. I have not added bottom paint since purchasing the boat 2 years ago, but the difficulty I had getting the slime off this past October suggests that it's probably time. My local marina manager told me that a lot of local boaters prefer a thin-film paint such as VC-17.
Here's my question: is there a way that I tell what type of paint is currently on the boat to know what kind of prep I need to do? I don't really know what the previous owner used and I understand that VC-17 can't always be applied over any kind of paint. Thanks for your help-
Jeff
