Which O'day 25 or 26?

I'm upgrading from an O'day 23 to an O'day 26 or late 25.Other than a few years difference is there any reason to seek a 26 or a 25.So far all the 26's I've seen have had more problems (leaks, deck blistering and gelcoat cracking) than the 25's.Thanks in advanceDon

I like my 26

I have had no problems with my 1985 OD26 except one leak at the chain plate that just needed to be re-sealed. My 26 has an inbord Yanmar diesel that I really like, I am not sure what the 25 uses for power. I have found that bigger is better. I have the swing keel and I keep it on a trailer in the winter or I would go even bigger. The 26 was only built for a few years, so you won't find as many available. Herb <wave@rockisland.com>

No Problems With the OD26

I also have an 1985 OD26. There is evidence of a minor leak at the chainplate attachment point, just needed to be rebeded. I have not found any cracking of the gelcoat anywhere on the boat. My version has an outboard as power which has proven very reliable. An inboard would be nice, but I can't justify the conversion cost at this time. I have spoke with several members of this site that have OD 25's and are very pleased with them. Just check the boat over from stem to stern, and don't put any money down on one until you find one that you are pleased with.Ben AllenMontgomery, AL"Wahoo"OD 26

i have had no problems with my 26--it is still in very good shape. a joy to sail.

O'day 25 vs 26

I own a 1978 25 O'Day. I've always liked the 26, but it also tends to be more expenive than the 25 - by alot. I'm not sure it's worth the extra money.I think the biggest decider would the the power plant. O'Day 25's are typically equipped with outboards, although mine has an OMC SailDrive. Although I've had no problems with the saildrive, I know they have mixed reviews. The 25 also came with a single lung Yanmar Deisel, although I beleive that's very difficult to find.I don't know the powerplant options on the 26, but I think it's easier to find one with a deisel. If so, I think it wuld be worth it over the 25.
