4 Stroke VS 2 Stroke
Dottie,I went through this very same question when I bought my 26X. After discussion with other boaters, and the dealer, I opted for the 4 stroke Yamaha. Here are the reasons. The 4 stroke, is quieter, and doesn't have the smell we all know from previous years outboards.Maintenance is really not much different from the engine in your automobile. You didn't indicate what horse power you had in mind. I have the 50hp. Powers the boat nicely, and its nice to be able to power back in when the weather kicks up. Another reason I chose the 4 stroke, over the 2, is because of the fuss being kicked up of more pollution by the 2 stroke. Jet Skis are a good example, too. Although I understand that manufacturers are working to develope cleaner burning engines. I'm sure someone out there will know more, and I would welcome enlightenment on that. The only reason I chose the Yamaha, is because I've had them before, and found them quite reliable, and decided I would stick with them.Best of luck in your decision on which engine you choose. Fair winds, and Good sailing!
