pleased with the x

I like my 26x great accomadations, inexpensive to operate. as far as sailing I am a rookie so i can't help you out there but I am having a ball figuring it out. motoring a little light in the bow for handling around the dock. all in all a great boat for a medium investment when you've added up the extras. the promo video is about 80% true in my opinion, mast rasing and motoring speeds are a little off.

Buying a Mac

We have a 26s. I don't want to start any my boat is better than your boat arguments. There are a lot of great boats out there for sale. Try to get out on the various models if you can and see for yourself. You will be surprised at how different boats can be. Are you looking for something to entertain friends on, a family boat, a speedy boat, something you can singlehand, a waterbound RV? We searched and decided on the s model over the x because of what we wanted out of a sailboat. The sailability. We bought a sailboat to sail. The x model has more headroom, different layout, creature comforts and is a great boat for a lot of people. Especially those with families. It's usually just my wife and I on a regular basis, so there's more than enough room on ours. But when the winds are good, there is not an x boat around that can outmanuver or outrun an s or d model. Also a good used s or d model can be less costlier and have more ammenities included when bought.

26X for me and love it

I agree with what 73mensailed had to say. Again not wanting to do the my boat is better than your thing here are my observations. The S sails better but the X has more room and amenities. The X can motor faster. The X sails sufficiently to get you anywhere you want to go. It does not point as high into the wind so it takes more tacking to go up wind. On a reach the X is pretty equal and will keep up with an S or D all day. I haven't sailed on a down hill run with either so I can't give you a comparison. The S has adequate room for two adults if you choose to go cruising somewhere. We just got back from a cruise with about 20 Macs and everyone seemed to have adequate accommodations. The X has more head room and a larger head. Mine has a shower and flush toilet. Both have a galley with stove and sink. The X has a dinette with two bench seats and a table. The S has a removable table. Both seem adequate. The S is the better sailor and the X is the better cruiser. Decide what you want to do most and choose accordingly. Best of luck and good sailing, Tim Bastian Zephyr's Aura Hixson, TN Check out our last cruise http://hcgiles.home.mindspring.com/macflotilla.htm
