Hi Everyone!!! I have recently purchasd a 1997 H23.5. I am getting the boat ready for this next season and have been looking at various furler options since my boat was not equiped with this option. Is there anyone out here who has added a furler to their 23.5 and which one did you purchase and why? What changes did you have to make and did you modify your existing sail? I see there are many options for me and have been looking at going with a CDI possibly. The CDI has been recommended to me more than one time so i'm wondering if this is the right choice. I also am concerned about what kind of hardware will be necessary for the application because of my boat being trailered when used and what kind of effect it will have when raising and lowering my mast. I have been trying to find a furler package made specifically for the H23.5 and have had no luck at this point. Thanks for any input... Craig

CDI

I own a 98 240 that I purchased equiped with a CDI furler. The furler is great is east to trailer and comes with a life time guarante. The furler worked great through two sailing seasons on the Chesapeake Bay. CDI would be by choice especially if you are going to tow.

Wife Proof

Had a H240(two years) with a CDI furler. Wife does the jib sail operation and she has two left hands( she does not read this) and has never foul it up. There is no maintenace, except for a fresh water rinse. Have move up to a H260 with a CDI furler. Hope this will help. Dan Ebert s/v THE TOY

Do the CDI thing!

I have one on my 26.. no problems, installed my self.. call CDI, tell them the boat size, year, etc.. they will set you up with the correct unit and instructions...specific for the boat.. good luck

JSI, The Sailing Source

My vote goes to the CDI, model FF2. I bought mine last winter from JSI. They had the best price, and even threw in all the deck hardware I needed as a special deal. I installed it myself, and it works great. As for your sail, wait until you get the unit on your boat then measure the length of the luff. Take the sail to your favorite sail maker and let them modify it for you. Enjoy...

CDI Furler

I too have a 98 240 with a CDI and agree with the others who have said good things about it. The only thing I would add is that when I first got my boat I had never worked with a roller furler and had some questions. The folks at CDI were very responsive by email and got me the information I needed. It sure is nice to be able to use the furler to reef from the cockpit rather than bouncing around on the foredeck trying to change sails!! Good luck Bill Welsch S/V Renewal

CDI

Ever since the first 23.5 was introduced by me 1992, CDI or flexible furler has been the only route I like to go. Apparently everyone agrees. Also, read about the life time warranty about the system. Many advantages.. Some suggestions. Furl out to port and mke sure the cleat is large enough for the furling line. Regarding the sail, use #6 luff tape and remove the jib hanks and jib pennant. As for the sunshade cover on the sail, I suggest to match with the striping on the side of the boat. The early boats I would recommend Persian Green and for the blue striping, Navy Blue. You will be asked which way to furl as this is important since they will sew on the cover for whatever side you furl the sail out which I recommend to port so the line will not interfeer with the anchor locker lid. My 26 has a CDI

Ditto from me with the CDI. Ours is 4 years old and we've had no problems trailering. You can buy other brands, but you will pay a lot more and they won't work any better. Practical Sailor rated the CDI as a best buy. I love mine. You may consider a lighter sun shield of white material on the sail. Bowers Sails recommended this as it is lighter than Sunbrella and will not affect the small jib as much. Mike Pajewski H26 "Loon"

what does a cdi ff2 furler for 23.5 cost

i have just bought a 1994 23.5 and am still getting the single-handed raising and lowering of the mast down pat and had thought it would be impossible to use a furler on this boat obviously it's not and am now wondering if i can afford one
