I have been trying for a year to determine which engine is in my boat. It is a 2 cylinder Yanmar. I cannot tell if it is a 2Gm 15 or a 2Qm 15 or a 2GM 20 or a 2 QM 20. I have a 1979, 33 foot Hunter. I wish someone could tell me the difference between these engines because there is no identification on the engine itself. I have tried Yanmar and Hunter and I cannot get an answer. Maybe one of you has the same boat and could tell me your engine.

Engine ID.

I think there is an id plate but in an impossible place to see. I would guess at 2QM15, most H33s came with that engine. My own 1979 H37C has the 2QM20. One of the many H33 owners will tell you where to find that plate.

79 H33 engine

I believe that all 79 H33 boats were originally powered with 2qm engines. My 79 H33 has been repowered with a 2gm. The photo shows the engine and the identification plate location.

eng questions

Unless it's benn repowered it's a 2QM 15 or 20, both were the standard and option. The GM series didn't come out until the 80's I think. any way you can post a picture? Pat McCartin

It's a 2QM15

My '78 H33 has the same engine. The id plate can best be seen through the access panel in the head. It's just under the secondary fuel filter. I've also heard that the GM series engines were not used until after '80.
