Which CDI For O'Day 222

I'll measure the drum on my furler next time I'm at the boat. I think I have #1, but as I read it also looks like the #2 works too. The "I" measurement is 22'8" which is a little over the max length for the #1. What ever mine is it works just fine. Check out their site. http://www.sailcdi.com/welcome.htm

FF2 works fine
Chuck, I bought the FF2 and have had it for 3 seasons and it works great. By the way, no need to buy the ball bearing add-on. I have a 135 jib on it and have no problems getting it rolled up even in decent winds. Dave s/v Hakuna Matata O'Day 222

Thanks for the info. Do you have any trouble with the plastic luff extrusion being straight? A couple of folks around here have said that they tent to never straighten all the way out. i guess this is in contrast to something like a Harken where the luff covering is metal. - thanks again chuck

We raced our 222 last night, and while at the boat I measured the drum on the CDI flexable furler and found it is 4" diameter therefore it is a #2 furler. The only problem I have seen is at the very top I have a knot on the halyard for the furler that catches on the 222 forward halyard. When this happens the furler gets stuck. It's a good thing I don't use both. In order to keep getting caught I wind the forward halyard around the back side of the spreader and cleat it tight which keeps it out of the way nicely.

Chuck R, Thanks for measuring that for me. I think I'll be ordering a CDI FF2 and a 150% Genoa. I just wanted to confirm that this was the correct size. By the way, did you have any trouble getting the forstay sleeve straight? Some have expressed concern about this. Just wondering, this will be my first furler. By the way how did you do in the race? thanks again, - Chuck D

I would order the FF 2
chuck d I bought my 222 O'day this spring down in Tenn almost to the Bama boarder. She is an 1986 and I'm the 4th owner. The Furler was already installed.. I thought they were standard but guess not or someone took yours off.. There are people who don't like them. I have visited some other sailing sights and asked racing questions and one guy says to trash the furler!! Hee He I am really enjoying my 222 as it's been 50 years since I've owned a sailboat. I didn't know of these in the fifty's.. They are neato and I like the idea of rolling in the sail when there is more wind than I like. The race started out with 13 boats and four of us finished because the wind pooped out, for awhile when it picked up I finished fourth. The other three boats were 27 to 32 footers so I think I came in second or maybe a first ??? after they recalculate the times. It was our last race of the season too.. You know the syndrome ---"Well it labor day now time to put the boat away " Like there is no more summer. YEAH RIGHT!!

No problem with the FF2 foil
Chuck, I have had no problems with the plastic foil straightening out. Winter storage for the roller furling unit is in my garage where it is hung from the rafters and supported in a horseshoe shape. When I launch each spring, it straightens right out. When I transport it on the trailer, I lay it along the side deck and lash it to the stanchions and then support the drum so it doesn't bend the foil. No problems at all. I have no complaints whatsoever and it certainly makes single handing a breeze. Dave s/v Hakuna Matata O'Day 222
