I'm looking at a 1983 c30 lots of neat options. http://www.yachtworld.com/core/listing/boatDetails.jsp?currency=USD&units=Feet&currencyid=100&boat_id=1732452&checked_boats=1732452&back=%2Fcore%2Flisting%2Fcache%2FsearchResults.jsp%3Fblc%3D34541%26toPrice%3D30000%26uom%3D126%26type%3D%2528Sail%2529%26currency%3DUSD%26units%3DFeet%26sm%3D3%26duom%3D126%26spc%3D3793%26wuom%3D126%26ywbtc%3D26482%26currencyid%3D100%26currencyid%3D100%26luom%3D126%26toLength%3D36%26ps%3D30%26ps%3D30%26fromPrice%3D0%26fromLength%3D28%26spid%3D119%26slim%3Dquick%26prc%3D17461%26so%3D0%26n%3D1%253A1%253A57854%253A71586%253A121%26is%3Dfalse%26incnt%3D97697&searchtype= I was told they'll prob. go to 17-18,000 Or... we looked at a 1985 c30 today that seems to have had a lot of work done and $6,000 worth of professionally recored decks decks were impressive and rock solid (done in 2005) and a dingy, no autopilot, air or other options for 18,000. Should the repaired decks scare me away or be a positive in the sale?

What neat options

If you think you will want AC, best to find one already installed. The big items are Furler, dodger, instruments, Bimini. Has the hardware and ropes been replaced. Microwave and fridge costs about $200. Solid deck is a great thing. It is better to pay more for a boat that has everything replaced than to do it yourself. Just ask, we all have the same story. Annapolis is around the corner. Good place to find out what all the extras are doing to run. Just my 2cents. Just get a survey and good luck.

That dorm fridge is worth about 1/5 of what the marine stove that is supposed to go there would cost, and I'll bet neither it nor the microwave will work if you aren't plugged in to the dock. That boat doesn't look that great and is way overpriced. Keep looking, they are great boats, but there are better ones out there.

How about a 88 or newer

I like my 1988 by 88 catalina worked out the kinks in the boat. There are lots of upgrades that you would like in the newer boats.I like the walk thru on the 90s boats but the cost gos way up.I would try to pick a boat with everything you want on it becouse it takes years to add a upgrade and it always coast twice as much money and takes 4 times longer then you think .If they did your decks like i am doing mine you would OK ,but i could not get mine done at anty price and did not trust the yard guys to do the job.Run a MM on the deck. The wood sucks up water like a sheet of bounty and sheets of wood need to be replaced. My boat needed three 5' sheet changed on the stb side and one 5' sheet on the port .When your deck gets wet it starts to flex up like a banana and its hard to get your rig tight. Most decks dont feel wet when you walk on them and they can stay wet a long time with out feeling soft. John
