Which barbeque and where/how to mount?

Hello H340 owners:

We would like to add a barbeque grill to our 2000 H340. Which make/model do you like and how is it mounted?

Pretty neat Chuck, especially the no propane part. One disadvantage is. . .no propane. Where to keep briquettes along with the grill since no mounting available?

My Magna lived on the rail between Lake Erie and Tampa. We only used it on the occasions when two burners in the galley were not enough. It has always worked well, actually gets too hot if not careful. But I do not like carrying those canisters.

Hello there...

I have a Hunter 340 2000 model year and I have a Magma Newport grill rail mounted to the back of the boat. I've loved it. It fits fairly nicely mounted to the rail above the propane locker. The bottle doesn’t fully rotate into place because of the stern seat there, but it fits enough into place to have secure connection and then the bottle just rests on the rail.

On our 99 H340, we have a Magma original kettle rail mounted on the port stern pulpit. No real issues other than smallish cooking area (fine for two), we keep the regulator/pipe and propane bottles in the same locker with the propane tanks.

We recently purchased a new Magma Newport Infrared grill. It's supposed to get hotter and cook faster using less propane than the traditional Magma Newport. We've used it a few times. Food turned out well, but we haven't noticed whether it cooks any faster than a conventional Newport. One difference is the infrared plates vaporize most of the fat drippings, so there's less to clean up in the drip tray than before.

The Newport Infrared uses the same mounting systems as the conventional Newport. We've got ours mounted on the starboard stern rail.

What I Did

I'm not a fan of grills on boats, and was even less happy with the performance of the round Magma grill I had when on our typically-windy mooring. It simply would not stay lit. However, my wife likes to have one, so I purchased a KUUMA Stow N'Go and a rail mount. I was really surprised at how well it cooks even in a bunch of wind. I did make a propane canister holder which I attach to the unit by a hose adapter for reasons probably unique to me. The nice part of this unit is that it would easily remove and store, altho I have not found a need to do so.

We love our large Magma Kettle grill (propane). New valve keeps burner lit in most conditions. We have it on the stern pulpit with an extension bar. Works well.
