To you Hunter 26/260 owners, where do you hang or stow a dinghy motor? Do you tow dinghy with motor on the dinghy? What have you tried? Thanks Kevin

Kevin, I have the same problem

I have tried a motor mount on the Port side just forward of the outboard seat. I didn't like the way it flexed. I'm going to try between the stbd outboard seat railing and the stern railing. I don't like this because it block axcess to the main outboard but I can't figure anything better. Hopefully this board will give us some ideas. I have also thought of making a mount between the head and the ladder below decks but I'm not happy with that eather. I have a 4 cycle , 4 HP outboard about 65 LBS. A third of my weight. I have no problem with the dink with the motor attached for short trips but across open water it has to come on board..... the question is where? John USNret

Why not one motor

Why not use your main motor for the dinghy also. Most 26/260 use an 8 - 9.9 motor which is also common for a dinghy. If the weight of the main engine is an issue place a lifting crane device in the boom cradle support bracket at the transom to move it back and forth. Just a thought. Jeff

in my case the "main" O/B 9.8 HP has got remote controls and an electrical heavy wire connected. The main O/B is set up for remote control and electrical start, my dinghy is only 8 ft long but the max power is 4 hp, but thanks for the thought. I'm still concerned about open water towing, I've seen small dinghies flip over in any wind not a good day for a $1200 motor. John USNret

Dinghy outboard

I would seriously think twice before putting a 9hp engine on an 8 foot dinghy. Its too heavy and too powerful. I would not tow the dinghy with an engine either. If the tow line parts you just might loose both and if it flips in rough weather you have a stern anchor.

simple lift

Very cool towing strap Brian. Now I gotta build that too. Kevin I hate sailing while trying to see around a dink stowed on the foredeck but it's often unavoidable when cruising. There was an article in cruising world issue about deploying a dink with motor attached by using a whisker pole but the 260 is tight forward. Just the awkward nature of lifting anything overboard is an issue of concern in a liquid enviroment. Cardinal rule #1...don't get hurt. Maybe try this lift when a seperate outboard has to be stowed for a distance run? Or fabricate one similar to it. It looks pretty basic but if it's a rough day this is still infinately difficult. http://www.oceanmarinesystems.com/4d_motorhoist.html Good luck and err on the safe side. Michael

Build a Mount

Thanks for the responses. After staring at the stern railing & trying out places to hang the 2hp, we are going to build a mount using 4 ss u-bolts and plastic wood. On the center stern rail bolt the board on upper & lower rails, extending up enough for the skeg to clear the emergency tiller widget. I'll report in later if it doesn't work well during a North Channel cruise. Thank you kevin
