where to put my insrument panel (i already tried that , it hurt)

My 1995 p42 had no engine instrument panel when i bought it and there was no obvious place to mount it. Where was it originaly? I was thinking about a navpod on the helm below my chart plotter(?). Any suggestions would be helpful.
