Location, location...

Hey James, I installed an in-hull transponder on a H25 I owned three years ago and it still hasn't missed a beat. I located in the starboard storage compartment under the V berth as far aft as possible. It was about a foot below the water line and you have to factor that into the reading in the shallows. I located the readout on the exterior starboard cabin bulkhead over the compass. I used a Uniden 100 which sells for about $100 at BoatUS or West Marine. No holes in the hull,,, No problems. Midline & forward

General rule of thumb is forward (at base of the keel) as close to the midline as possible. You want to see the depths where you are going, not where you've been.

Hunter 25 ('82) transducer location

I have tried two locations on my Hunter 25, one aft inside the access hatch in the starboard seat locker (beside the water tank if you don't have the inboard motor), the other in the after compartment below the forward bunk. The first one didn't work well. The second works okay, but be sure to avoid placing it on top of the forward edge of the keel. By the way, my installation was made by gluing down a piece of auto radiator hose to the hull, and filling it with water to make contact with the hull and the surface of the transducer. Hence no hole in the hull!

I placed mine under the front berth with silcon . It worked GREAT! I was able to see the depth before my 4 foot keel did.
