Just bought a new spare tire for the trailer, as mine didn't come with one. Where do most of you 23.5/240 or 26/260 owners have mounted the spare wheel?
Carrying it in the vehicle is not an option as we tow with an suv and space is limited.
Yeah, some mobile home may need one for the front yard
I bought a mount at Northern Tool that holds the tire upright just in front of the bow on my Mac. No drilling, just clamps on the frame. You could run a cable through one of the available lug holes and secure it around the frame.
The PO of my boat mounted the spare on the bow ladder. When I restored the trailer I thought about getting a spare tire mount and moving it. But I realized I like it there, as it provides a last step up when boarding the boat from there. It's strong enough to stand on, which is real convenient when rigging the boat. Without the tire there it's considerably harder to board the boat from the ladder.
It's simply mounted using two 5.5 inch galvanized bolts.
I mounted mine right to the frame where it comes to a V at the bow. It lays flat and I use it as a step to reach out and attach the winch snap to the U-bolt on the bow. Saves my feet from getting wet. There is a mount available from the manufacture that i used. It was mounted to the frame below the winch but I got back from a long trip and discovered one of the bolts broke off and it was dangling by the other so i picked a more secure location which also served as a step. Another step on the ladder would be nice to though.
