Does anyone know where to get replacement plastic cockpit speaker covers? The speaker covers in the cockpit are getting old. Bin kicked acoupla times, etc. Are missing a few teeth--patched with rigging tape, etc. I replaced the speakers a few years ago with regular auto speakers (which work great btw) but the covers were steel. West does not have speaker covers. Jensen, which my old speakers were, evidently will not sell covers separately. You have to buy the whole speaker. But I don't need the speakers--just the covers. Can something else be adapted to this use, etc. etc???

Direct from Hunter

I purchased replacement covers for my original speakers directly from Hunter. I too had difficulty finding covers, but Hunter had them in stock. Rich

just bought a pair on e-bay

Same thing happened to me. Cover is sun beat and ripped but speakers work. Hit e-bay and purchased a pair (remember speakers are like shoes- replace both) for under $10.00 for the pair. Try it and see what is listed. Good luck Ian

Standard Horizon

If these are the Standard Horizon speakers you can go to thier Web site get the phone # and call them. They are very inexpensive but may take a while to get. Make sure you have the speaker # a 35.5 has AS101's. Good Luck

Great way to sink a boat

I'm putting some sweet sounds in a Hunter 27 and was about to put some cockpit speakers in, when a Practical Sailor article caught my eye. Since a speaker stops very little water from entering from a swamped cockpit, they calculated the water inflow through a speaker hole after the water busts out the speaker. I don't remember the quantity but it was huge, and way more than I want in my cabin. You can set the speaker back and use deck nspection plate to cover the speaker in high seas/ bad weather. Workin on that myself right now. Just thought I would pass it on.....it was one aspect of cockpit speakers I'd not considered...I was lookin at diameters, woofer, ohms and watts! IJ

We try not to sink it

Thanks, IslandJack. Our cockpit speakers, in the '93 30-T, are set in seat wells, so water through them would not sink the boat. But I better check and make sure those seat wells don't drain into the cabin bilge. You make a good point that I had not considered.
