i need to get a spinnaker for my new boat, i have never puchased one before, where should i go to get the best deals? I saw the chute with "toilet seat" that system seems to work slick, I am a cruiser, who participates in clubs races, spinnakers are rarely used, but my boat has everything else, and I want to add this item to my sail inventory, your advice is greatly appreciated. I currently own a 1997 cat 320.

Cruising Spinny

You want an asymmetrical spinnaker instead of a tri-radial. They're easier to deploy & handle. I would also spring for a spinnaker sock as that makes it a snap to take the darn thing down! As far as where to go? Doyle Sails are represented on this site if you're looking for new. You could also check out used ones. That's actually not a bad way to go most of the time since a spinnaker is typically the least used sail in anyone's inventory (unless you have a storm trysail). The worst you'll probably find is a little mildew from disuse. LaDonna

Spinnaker

Not all symmetrical spinnakers are tri-radials; that's just one of many designs one can use. I recently read an articel that asserts that a symmetrical spinnaker is actually more versatile than an asymmetrical one, and only a little more work, marginally so when a douser (sock) is used. I'm thinking of a symmetrical one. UK Sail's site has some really good reading on 2 boat teestign they recently accomplished to support design. The article I mentioned first is at the link below. jv

Cruising Spinnaker

Two weeks ago I purchased a cruising spinnaker from UK sails for my Catalina 28. We love it, best sail I ever bought. Will be glad to share any info you want. Neil Brand
